How to Clean Indoor Turf: A Daily Routine for Training Facilities

Indoor turf has taken over training. Speed lanes, sled runs, stretch zones, and turf strips now sit inside weight rooms and fieldhouses across Indiana. Turf feels like grass, but it doesn't clean like a floor. Sweat, skin, and dirt work down into the fibers and the infill, and a dry mop never reaches them.

Here is the daily routine we recommend for indoor turf with COMPEL. It is the same routine in our Indoor Turf protocol.

Before you start: check the care guide

Turf systems differ in fiber, backing, and infill. Read your turf manufacturer's care guide before you add any cleaner, and spot-test a small corner first. Let it dry and check the look and feel before you treat the whole surface.

What you need

The COMPEL Mat & Turf Kit covers the cleaner, sprayer, and microfiber.

Step 1: Groom and clear

Blow or vacuum off tape, hair, and loose debris. Brush the fibers upright with a turf broom. Upright fibers take an even mist. Matted fibers shed it into the infill.

Step 2: Mix one sprayer

Pour 1/2 cup of SAFEGUARD into the sprayer and fill it to the 1/2 gallon line with water. Coverage on turf depends on pile height and infill, so track it the first week. Write your square footage per mix on the protocol and you'll know exactly what to order.

Step 3: Mist the fibers

Hold the wand about waist high and walk the lane in even passes. The goal is to wet the fibers, not to soak the infill. A light, even mist does more than a heavy spray that runs straight down into the base.

Step 4: Let it air dry

No rinse. Keep traffic off until it's dry. SAFEGUARD continues to work after the surface dries.

Where to focus

You don't need to treat every square foot every day. Hit the zones where skin and sweat land most:

  • Every day: sled lanes, stretch and warm-up areas, and drill stations.
  • Every day: sled handles, pads, and mats. Spray with the same mix and wipe with a microfiber.
  • Every week: a full pass over the whole surface.
  • Every week: towels and pinnies through the wash with 1/2 cup of SAFEGUARD per load.

Indoor turf only

This routine is built for indoor lanes and training floors. One Mat & Turf Kit is not sized for a full outdoor field. If you run an outdoor field, talk to us before you plan around it.

Post the routine

The Indoor Turf protocol puts the mix, the schedule, and the restock points on one page, with an 18 x 24 poster for the wall. Download the Indoor Turf protocol.

SAFEGUARD is a surface and fabric cleaner. If your facility's protocol requires an EPA-registered disinfectant, keep using it. COMPEL runs the daily routine around it.
